Hey, Royals! As you may now, Kent-Meridian offers many opportunities for every student to participate in many different, unique programs in and out of school. Here are a few academic programs (some occur in the summer) that are available!
- Camp Neuro, run by local medical students in 27 cities nationwide, is a 1-week summer day camp in Seattle open to high school students interested in exploring careers in medicine. Scholarship and standard applications are now open for Camp Neuro Seattle 2016! Students may learn more and apply by visiting http://www.campneuro.org.
- If you are a junior who likes challenge and adventure, and value a high purpose in life, check out the United States Coast Guard Academy this summer in Connecticut! This is a 6 day intense, immersive, hands on program. Selection is competitive for this Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) and applications will be available now through April 1. www.uscga.edu/AIM
- If you are interested in volunteering this summer at the Seattle Aquarium, plan to attend their orientation on Saturday, March 12, from 11:00 – noon. Students in grades 9 – 12 are accepted. Applications will be given out at the orientation and acceptance to the program is competitive. Bus passes are available to help with transportation if you are selected to volunteer. For more information on the Youth Ocean Advocates volunteer program, go to www.seattleaquarium.org/youth-ocean-advocates.
- KSD internship opportunity: if you are interested in the digital media field, you may consider checking out our Creative Media Internship program. It is a paid internship position for students in grades 9 – 12 with a minimum GPA of 2.0. During the school year, you work 2-3 hours after school and during the summer you can work more hours if you want. To find out what other types of position we hire for, visit www.kent.k12.wa.us/Page/4330
- Sophomores and juniors: we are happy to announce that the application period for our 13th Annual MultiCare Nurse Camp is now open. This year, Nurse Camp will be held July 11th - 15th. It will be based out of Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Hospitals from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm daily and the goal is to encourage, inspire and support students who are considering nursing or allied health professions, such as pharmacy, radiology or physical therapy. This is a highly competitive program; deadline for applications is March 4. For additional information, see Ms. Noble in Library on Mondays and Wednesdays.
